Handwritten notes versus laptop use in class – latest studies

Ben Golder alerted me to an interesting piece at Vox, reflecting the latest research on “Why you should take notes by hand — not on a laptop“.  Apparently the results are somewhat independent of the legibility of one’s handwriting!

  1. And they are mostly looking at something else not actually taking notes on the lecture or seminar they are in. So I think they are suffering from the same problem. But I think lots of people would resist the removal of laptops. Maybe the answer is to find ways to get people to really take notes on laptops conceptually – because that seems to be what the problem is. It would be interesting to see if you could train people to do that.
